|Wang Yi: The Sherpa Meeting Is an Important Opportunity for China and Africa to Strengthen Strategic Coordination|
On June 23, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Alain Claude Bilie By Nze of Gabon.
Wang Yi said that the Sherpa meeting on the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to be held in Beijing will be attended by high-level delegations from 53 African countries, including foreign ministers from 25 countries, which fully demonstrates the great importance Africa attaches to China-Africa relations and the unbreakable unity and friendship between China and Africa. This meeting will also be an important opportunity for China and Africa to strengthen strategic coordination under the new circumstances. China and other African countries, including Gabon, had similar experiences in history. Today, we also share common development needs. We share broad common interests in international affairs and are natural cooperative partners beyond compare.
Wang Yi said that the Chinese side is willing to, together with the Gabonese side, take the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year as an opportunity to open up new prospects for bilateral relations. The two sides should continue to support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and open up new prospects for cooperation in the process of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. We also need to strengthen coordination and cooperation in multilateral affairs and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
Alain Claude Bilie By Nze said that under the guidance of President Ali Bongo Ondimba and President Xi Jinping, Gabon-China friendship has been continuously deepened and cooperation within the framework of the FOCAC has been further strengthened. Bilateral relations are solid and strong. China's successful experience is well worth learning by African countries. Many African countries, including Gabon, are ready to enhance exchanges of experience in state governance and administration with China, and integrate their own development strategies with the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative to achieve common development and work to build an even closer China-Africa community with a shared future.
After the meeting, the two sides witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements together.
