Wang Yi Meets with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi

On October 29, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Rome.

Wang Yi said, under the strategic guidance of the two countries' heads of state, China-Indonesia relations grow smoothly. The two countries have deepened mutual trust continuously, increased economic and trade cooperation amid challenges, enhanced investment cooperation in various fields, and delivered fruitful results in jointly fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. China is willing to work with Indonesia to continue strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and prevail against the pandemic, so as to push for greater development of bilateral relations.

Retno agrees with China's assessment on bilateral relations, and is pleased with the fruitful results of bilateral pragmatic cooperation. Indonesia appreciates China's active cooperation on COVID-19 vaccines, which has vigorously supported Indonesia's anti-pandemic endeavor. Indonesia is willing to work with China and push forward bilateral cooperation in various fields to better benefit the two peoples.

The two sides exchanged views on G20 cooperation. Wang Yi said, China supports Indonesia in hosting the G20 Summit next year, and is willing to work with Indonesia and other parties to help the summit pay more attention to the legitimate demands of emerging markets and developing countries. Retno said, Indonesia is willing to work with China to promote the G20 to better safeguard common interests of emerging markets and developing countries, pay more attention to the legitimate concerns of small and medium-sized countries, and cope with global challenges in a more effective manner.

The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Wang Yi said, China-ASEAN relations are the most dynamic and effective relations with a promising prospect, and both sides should implement the outcomes of the successful ASEAN-China Summit held recently. Both sides should take the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations as an opportunity to summarize successful experience while looking into the future in a bid to promote and establish China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides agree to speed up preparations for the Summit on Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations next month, upgrade and elevate bilateral relations, and inject strong impetus into regional peace and development.

The two sides also expressed grave concern over the risk of nuclear proliferation caused by the plan for nuclear-powered submarine cooperation of the AUKUS.
