Wang Yi Meets with ROK Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong

On October 29, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with ROK Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong in Rome.

Both China and the ROK are satisfied with the steady and sound development of bilateral relations, and agree to hold the commemorations of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ROK diplomatic ties next year. Both sides will consolidate political mutual trust, guide the Committee for Future Development of China-ROK Relations to strengthen communication, and put forth forward-looking and workable policies and proposals that are keeping up with the times for the development of bilateral relations. The two sides will take the "China-ROK Year of Cultural Exchange" as an opportunity to improve national feelings between the two countries and consolidate the foundation of China-ROK friendship. The two sides will support each other in hosting the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon.

The two sides also exchanged views on the latest development of the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Wang Yi said, there are new changes in the situation on the Peninsula. China supports the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in improving and developing relations, and is also glad to see the DPRK and the United States restart dialogue in due time. China always maintains that the people in both the ROK and the DPRK are the masters of the Peninsula, and they should play a more active role. China supports all the efforts and proposals that can help advance the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue, and will continue to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability of the Peninsula and the region.
