2021-10-19 12:06

On October 19, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with new Nepali Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka.

Wang Yi said, China and Nepal are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, and also partners for development with a shared future. The two countries have always respected and treated each other equally, setting an example of peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperation between neighboring countries. China appreciates Nepal's successive governments for their determined pursuit of the one-China policy and their firm support for China on issues involving China's core interests and major concerns. China will also, as always, support Nepal in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and speak up on issues concerning Nepal's core interests.

Noting that the joint efforts of China and Nepal to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and promote economic recovery since last year have heralded a new chapter in the traditional friendship between both countries, Wang Yi said that China will provide Nepal with a new batch of COVID-19 vaccines and facilitate its procurement of vaccines from China, a move intended to further support the COVID-19 response of Nepal. The Chinese side is willing to share China's development opportunities with Nepal and jointly build the Belt and Road with high quality, help boost Nepal's economic and social development, and build a closer China-Nepal community with a shared future.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China's lawful seat in the United Nations (UN), in which regard we will never forget Nepal's valuable support for China. China is ready to work with Nepal to safeguard true multilateralism, resist interference in other countries' internal affairs, oppose unilateralism and acts of bullying, and protect the common interests of both countries and other countries in the region. As an important public good and cooperation platform provided by China for the international community, the Global Development Initiative will help Nepal and other developing countries better achieve their own development. To this end, China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Nepal.

Khadka congratulated the Communist Party of China on its 100th anniversary and thanked China for its invaluable support for Nepal's anti-pandemic battle and economic development. Khadka said, the new government of Nepal attaches great importance to its relations with China, and is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, launch high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and push for new progress in Nepal-China relations. Nepal will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and will never allow any force to use its territory to conduct anti-China activities. Nepal will earnestly study the Global Development Initiative which is in keeping with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, so as to better align it with the country's own development strategy.
