Wang Yi Meets with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong
2021-09-13 14:10

On September 13, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Cambodian side of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee Hor Namhong in Phnom Penh.

Wang Yi said, China and Cambodia enjoy relations featuring an iron-clad friendship and a community with a shared future. Facing the once-in-a-century pandemic, the two sides helped each other and created many "firsts". Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen is the first head of the foreign government to visit China after the pandemic outbreak. The first batch of foreign aid anti-pandemic materials received by Wuhan came from Cambodia. China is the first country to send a medical team and a military medical team to Cambodia. China-aided vaccines are the first to arrive in Cambodia. The traditional friendship between China and Cambodia has been elevated in their joint fight against the pandemic. China is willing to work with Cambodia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, constantly advancing the building of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.

Wang Yi said that China is willing to work with Cambodia to maintain communication in a flexible manner, strengthen mechanism construction for the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee, boost coordinated exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and comprehensively implement the action plan for building a community with a shared future for both countries. The two countries should strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, jointly uphold the ASEAN centrality in regional cooperation, and guard against the interference by any forces outside the region in the regional countries' efforts for common development and prosperity.

Hor Namhong expressed gratitude to China for its strong support for Cambodia's efforts to overcome the pandemic and recover its economy. Just as Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said at the handover ceremony of the China-funded national stadium on September 12, China has provided irreplaceable support for Cambodia, and the iron-clad Cambodia-China friendship has deeply rooted in the hearts of the Cambodian people. Cambodia is willing to work with China to give full play to the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee and advance practical cooperation between the two sides to achieve more fruitful results. Cambodia supports accelerating talks on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea between China and ASEAN countries, reinforcing and boosting ASEAN-China relations and jointly safeguarding regional peace and stability.

The two sides also made in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues of common concern.
