2021-07-20 13:55

On July 19, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra in Algiers.

Wang Yi said, 50 years ago, despite interference and pressure, Algeria worked together with other developing countries to promote the restoration of China's lawful seat in the United Nations (UN). This historical event changed the world, and China will never forget it. China will continue to regard Algeria as a reliable good friend and partner, work with Algeria to carry forward the fine tradition of mutual understanding, mutual trust and mutual support, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and push China-Algeria comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Wang Yi said, China highly appreciates Algeria's strong support on issues involving China's core interests and major concerns, firmly supports Algeria in pursuing the development path suited to its national conditions, safeguarding sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs. China will continue to provide Algeria with vaccines and anti-pandemic materials to help Algeria overcome the pandemic at an early date. China is ready to make solid progress with Algeria in major cooperation projects and help Algeria achieve independent and sustainable development at a faster pace.

Wang Yi stressed that great changes have taken place in the international situation over the past 50 years, but China's position of supporting developing countries has not changed and will not change in the future. China is ready to work with Algeria and other developing countries to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and increase the representation and voice of developing countries in international affairs. China's vote in the UN Security Council will always belong to developing countries. He welcomes Algeria to continue to play a more active role in the development of China-Algeria relations, China-Africa relations and China's relations with Muslim-majority countries.

Lamamra warmly congratulated on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), saying that Algeria-China relations have a long history, a solid foundation and fruitful results. Algeria hopes to work with China to push for continuous development of the traditional friendship and practical cooperation between the two countries. China's restoration of its lawful seat in the UN is a historic achievement made by both countries and has made international relations more balanced. China is determined not only to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, but also to uphold the basic rules governing international relations and protect the interests of small and medium-sized countries. Algeria will always "stand in the same trench" with China to safeguard international fairness and justice and is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in such fields as economy, trade, science, technology and human resources training to achieve common development. Algeria speaks highly of China-Africa cooperation, opposes external forces' interference in China-Africa cooperation and stands ready to work with China to promote trilateral cooperation with Africa.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

The two sides agreed to speed up consultations on signing the five-year plan for China-Algeria comprehensive strategic cooperation and the implementation plan for jointly building the Belt and Road.
