2021-06-07 15:12

On June 7, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi in Chongqing.

Wang Yi said this year marks the 30th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations. Over the past three decades, the bilateral relationship has gained leap-forward development and become an important pillar for the regional peace, stability, development and prosperity. Both sides should seize the opportunities brought by the Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting to make in-depth communication on the China-ASEAN relations in the next three decades, sum up helpful experience, probe into development directions, promote qualitative upgrading of bilateral relations and bring more benefits to their peoples.

Wang Yi stated that China will continue to work with ASEAN countries in epidemic control, provide them with more vaccines as needed, and carry out vaccine-related cooperation in research and production, procurement, supervision and inoculation. China will also continue to support the ASEAN COVID-19 response fund and the reserves of emergency medical supplies, advance the building of 10+3 medical supplies reserve center, and implement the China-ASEAN public health cooperation initiative.

Wang Yi said China stands ready to work with the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and make pragmatic cooperation with ASEAN in the key areas defined in the Framework. China has ratified the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, and hopes ASEAN countries could speed up their approval formalities so that the RCEP could come into effect as soon as possible to benefit their peoples and economic recovery. China will work with ASEAN to make a successful Year of Sustainable Development Cooperation, and is committed to building the blue economy partnership, exploring and innovating new highlights of technological cooperation, and enriching the two sides' relations. He hopes ASEAN Secretariat will enhance its role as a bridge over the two sides, and co-create a brighter future of China-ASEAN cooperation.

Dato Lim Jock Hoi said that in face of the COVID-19 challenges, ASEAN and China have demonstrated the spirit of sharing and mutual assistance. He extended appreciation for China's support and assistance in ASEAN epidemic control. Over the 30 years of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, both sides have built up mutual trust, deepened pragmatic cooperation and reinforced the traditional friendship. Standing on a new historical starting point, ASEAN will work with China to firmly safeguard regional peace and stability, promote regional economic recovery, and upgrade ASEAN-China relationship.
