2021-06-01 14:12

On May 31, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks and jointly met the press with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto.

Wang Yi said, faced with the raging pandemic and the changes in the international landscape, China-Hungary relations demonstrate a more strategic and leading feature. With the pressing task of defeating the pandemic and accelerating economic prosperity, and the important responsibility of promoting international dialogue and cooperation, we should further strengthen communication and coordination, and play a due role in maintaining the right direction of China-Europe relations and boosting world peace and development.

The two foreign ministers agreed on the four goals of delivering high-level development of China-Hungary comprehensive strategic partnership:

First, both sides should deepen high-level strategic mutual trust, resolutely support each other in upholding national sovereignty, security and development interests, understand and respect each other's reasonable and major concerns, and enhance mutual trust amid the changes in international relations.

Second, both sides should pursue high-level common development, synergize China's new development paradigm with the "Opening to the East" policy of Hungary, focus on high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implement major cooperation projects, tap emerging cooperation fields, and reinforce foundation and improve quality and efficiency of China-CEEC cooperation.

Third, both sides should consolidate the public support at the high level, overcome the impact of the COVID-19 and increase exchanges of people in various fields and sectors such as education, culture, tourism, sports, youth, and media, further support institutional arrangements for the facilitation of personnel exchanges, and strengthen cooperation of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

Fourth, both sides should maintain high-level international coordination, practice true multilateralism, defend the UN-centered international system, uphold international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and promote fairness and justice in the world. In terms of the China-Europe relations, China-Hungary cooperation has never and will not aim to divide Europe, but to enhance mutual understanding and tolerance between China and Europe, stop saying or doing anything to undermine China-Europe cooperation, and foil any attempt to divide the world.
