On May 11, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov who came to China to attend the second China+Central Asia (C+C5) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province.

Wang Yi expressed, since China and Uzbekistan established diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have maintained a sound and stable development momentum, which brings benefits to the two peoples. China has always had full confidence about the prospects of the bilateral relationship. The recent telephone conversation between the two heads of state pointed out the direction for the bilateral relations in the post-pandemic period. China is willing to share development opportunities with Uzbekistan and expand all-round cooperation, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties next year with tangible results.

Wang Yi said, the cooperation in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic has shown promising results, and so has their vaccine cooperation. China encourages the enterprises of the two countries to continue vaccine cooperation, supports the good use of the Chinese-Uzbek Center for Traditional Medicine, strengthens mutual learning, and implements modern medicine cooperation, such as telemedicine, promoting the building of a community of health between China and Uzbekistan. China hopes Uzbekistan can assist Chinese nationals in the country in getting vaccinated.

Wang Yi said, both sides shall give full play to the coordination role of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, break new grounds in fields, modes and levels of cooperation, contributing to post-pandemic economic recovery. China is ready to work with Uzbekistan to deeply align the Belt and Road Initiative with "New Uzbekistan" development plan to leverage complementary strengths; quicken to negotiate and sign the China-Uzbekistan Long-term Economic and Trade Cooperation Plan for facilitating bilateral trade and investment, and raising the level and quality of economic and trade cooperation; build connectivity network, accelerate the construction of China-Central Asia-West Asia Transport Corridor, and jointly build a pilot zone in the Central Asia; strengthen cooperation in education, culture, tourism, and sports and carry forward traditional friendship through taking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity.

Wang Yi emphasized, China attaches importance to and appreciates the positive role of Uzbekistan in regional affairs, and takes the second C+C5 Foreign Ministers' Meeting as an opportunity to launch the all-round cooperation with the five Central Asian countries, striving for common development and prosperity. Both sides need to strengthen strategic coordination, maintain common interests, uphold the development rights of the emerging markets and developing countries, defend non-interference in internal affairs, which is a basic norm governing international relations, and safeguard international fairness and justice.

Kamilov said, China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has withstood the test of the pandemic, and the cooperation in various fields is growing fast. Uzbekistan attaches great importance to its relations with China, stays committed to the one-China principle, firmly opposes interfering in China's internal affairs, and fully supports China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Uzbekistan congratulates on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and hopes to take the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties as an opportunity to seek greater development of the bilateral relations. Uzbekistan applauds China's success in getting the pandemic under control, being the first to register positive growth, winning the battle against poverty, and setting an example for the world. Uzbekistan appreciates China's strong support for its fight against the virus. It is willing to work with China to strengthen vaccine cooperation, and assist Chinese nationals in getting vaccinated. It hopes that both sides will convene the meeting of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee earlier, and further strengthen cooperation in poverty alleviation, connectivity, and fight against the "three evil forces" of terrorism, extremism, and separatism, so as to advance Belt and Road cooperation. Uzbekistan supports the mechanism of the C+C5 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and will conduct close coordination with China under the frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and jointly maintain regional and world peace and stability.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern, such as the situation in Afghanistan and Central Asia.
