|Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang's Remarks on the Signing of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 by the United States|
Q: According to reports, the US Congress National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 has been signed into law by President Donald Trump, which includes several negative China-related provisions, such as directing a whole-of-government strategy on China and submitting the assessment and plan on strengthening Taiwan’s force readiness. What is your comment?
A: The Chinese side has repeatedly made clear its position and lodged stern representations with the US side. We are strongly dissatisfied with the US’ bent on passing and signing the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 which includes negative China-related content in disregard of China’s firm opposition. We urge the US to discard the Cold War mentality and zero-sum game mindset, view China and China-US relations in an objective way, abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques and refrain from implementing the relevant negative China-related provisions, lest it should undermine the China-US relations and bilateral cooperation in key areas.
